Unicorn training

It was a random proposal by one of my best friends that a local design polytechnic has an opening for a senior lecturer position. She asked me to give it a try. I went for the interview and they informed me that I look too young to be an educator. I half-jokingly said that is an advantage because students will be able to relate to me. I got the job. It was a struggle to decide to stay in the ad world or proceed to shape young minds. The latter sounded like a new horizon and the rest is history. Here is a short brief account of my 2555 days as Miss Clyda.

Singpost SG 50 National Competition

My students Javen, Andrew, and Marissa wanted to join the competition for the Singapore Local brand exhibition showcase in Suntec, as part of the Singapore SG 50 birthday celebration. Working with my good friend Joyce, we were guiding students to create an experience for the judges to remember the booth, The students did up a video at the booth, create a mailbox for visitors to come and visit the booth and send a letter for their loved one. Sending love over through the letter.

These students got 3rd place national wide. All the long hours and lack of sleep were worth it! I was honored to be their mentor and instructor.

Graduation day Fusion 2014

There is a grad show called Fusion. My cohort was graduating after 3 years of studies. I had created some videos for their works to showcase at the diploma booth and a surprise video to mark the end of their journey at Nanyang Polytechnic.

Ending credit

With a song to end their 3 years of fun schooling with Nanyang Polytechnic. I told the student to take a shot of themselves mouthing the individual vowel of “Happy graduation to you”. They didn’t expect their videos to be used like this. As a course coordinator, this was my parting gift, a surprise and wish for them and their bright future.

color book

I was the foundation teacher at Nanyang Polytechnic. So for my color theory classes, I try to come out with interesting projects for them to work on. Here are some of the assignments for the project. I will guide them in their conceptualization and art-direct with them toward the visual aesthetic goal they want to achieve.
